Air Conditioning for Offices

Offices overheat because of people, computers and glass — not just the weather. We design and install office air conditioning that holds a steady temperature across the floorplate without cold draughts over desks, and we install it around your working day.

Designing for a real office

A modern office typically gains heat from around 100W per occupant, plus laptops, monitors, lighting and solar gain through glazing. South-facing perimeter zones can need double the cooling of an internal core. We calculate zone by zone and specify unit positions against the actual furniture layout so nobody sits in the airflow.

Systems that suit offices

Ceiling cassettes suit open-plan floors with a suspended ceiling: four-way discharge, discreet, easy to service. Ducted units hide entirely above the ceiling and feed linear grilles where appearance matters. VRF ties multiple zones back to shared outdoor plant, allowing individual room control and heat recovery between warm and cool zones. Meeting rooms and comms rooms usually need their own controllable units.

Installed without shutting the office

Fit-outs are phased floor by floor and carried out evenings and weekends where required. RAMS, insurances and inductions are all in place, and we coordinate with landlords, managing agents and principal contractors as standard.

Comfort, productivity and compliance

Workplace guidance points to a reasonable indoor temperature of around 16°C minimum for office work, and comfort complaints climb quickly above the mid-20s. Reversible heat-pump systems handle both ends of the year, so the same equipment heats the floor in winter.

Frequently asked questions

How much air conditioning does an office need?

As a rough rule of thumb a typical office needs somewhere around 1kW of cooling per 8–12m² of floor area, but occupancy density, IT load and glazing move that figure a long way in either direction. A proper heat-load calculation is the only reliable answer.

Can each room have its own temperature?

Yes. VRF and multi-split systems give each indoor unit its own controller, and controls can be zoned, scheduled and locked to a setpoint range to stop thermostat wars.

Can you install while staff are working?

Yes — we phase the work by area, and carry out noisy or disruptive activities out of hours where required.

Who is responsible for F-Gas compliance in a leased office?

The operator of the equipment — usually the party with day-to-day control — carries the duty to leak check and keep records. Our maintenance contracts handle both and store the records against each unit.

Can we spread the cost of an office system?

Yes. Projects from £2,500 to £250,000 + VAT can be funded over 3 or 5 years, covering the whole project including power supplies.
